DEX FingerLight® was created by a father-and-sons team—Tom, Ben, and Jake Mitchell—through their Chesterfield, Missouri–based startup, Wild M Brands™.  Before launching the company, Tom spent more than 34 years in the medical device industry. Ben served as an Officer in the U.S. Marine Corps, and Jake also worked in med tech before joining the family’s bold new venture in wearable lighting.

Originally invented for surgical applications, Tom quickly realized the potential as a compact, hands-free solution for camping, DIY projects, and bowhunting. A call to Ben, stationed at the Marine Corps Air Station in South Carolina, sparked even broader possibilities: aircraft mechanics and aviators immediately saw the value of a finger-mounted light in the cockpit, during maintenance and for preflight checks. Their enthusiastic feedback lit the fuse.

The Mitchells got to work—researching, testing, and refining. Today, DEX FingerLight® is protected by three issued U.S. patents and pending in 42 countries. After countless prototypes, they engineered a rugged, dependable device that exceeded their own stringent performance benchmarks.

But this journey is more than a product story. It’s a family mission—an American dream powered by faith, grit, and the belief that honest work still matters. It’s about creating something entirely new and building a foundation for future family generations. Through setbacks and challenges, they held fast to a shared mindset: failure is not an option.
